Hello beautiful soul,
Welcome to the very first Slow Dance Sunday. Each week, I’ll send you a gentle rhythm of reflections to ease into your Sunday — something to read slowly, and perhaps even carry with you as you dance through the week.
This week’s theme: “Life isn’t a race to the finish, but a dance to be savored.”
Lets step into this week’s D-A-N-C-E
D — Discover
Of all the discoveries out there, the best discovery you’ll ever make is self-discovery.
What’s that one thing you love doing so much that you are completely immersed, lose track of time while doing it or even forgetting the world around you?
For me, it’s making art — that precious flow state. Research shows that flow sate not only feels good but also boosts positive emotions and overall wellbeing.
What’s your flow state? Discovering this and then doing it regularly can help you achieve lasting sense of happiness and fulfilment.
A — Align
We all know how important alignment is — from the distant stars to the spine in your body. When things fall out of alignment, problems arise.
Ask yourself: Are my daily actions aligned with my values?
If you value your family, are you truly present with them — or are you half-scrolling on your phone while sitting with them? Noticing these small gaps between what we say and what we do can guide us back into alignment. This then fosters greater sense of purpose and help us make choices with integrity.
N — Nourish
Think of yourself like a houseplant — you need water and sunshine too! First thing in the morning, before diving into your day, drink a glass of water (not your coffee or tea just yet), and stand where the sunlight touches you.
Even 5 minutes of morning sun can help regulate body’s internal clock, improve mood and support sleep. These tiny rituals of nourishment helps boosts energy and watch yourself ‘bloom’ when it is done regularly.
C — Connect
Life is all about connection.
This week, reach out to someone you’ve been meaning to check in with. It takes less than 10 seconds to text: “Thinking of you” or “How are you?”
Cultivating meaningful relationships are a vital part of a fulfilling life. Sometimes a small message is all it takes to remind someone they’re not alone. Let’s set aside the excuse of ‘no time’ and initiate the connection and extend our love and presence.
E — Enjoy
Savour a moment today — really savour it, as if you’re capturing it with the lens of your heart. It could be a moment of stillness, your children’s laughter, the warmth of the sun on your skin, or even your own reflection in the mirror. This simple practice of consciously appreciating pleasant experiences is a skill you can cultivate. Over time, it boosts mental health wellbeing, eases anxiety and even helps you stay resilient in challenging times.
Remember: today is the youngest you’ll ever be. So, savour that too.
That’s your D-A-N-C-E for this week. May you discover, align, nourish, connect, and enjoy — not just today, but in the little rhythms of everyday life.
Until next Sunday, keep dancing slowly.
Much Love, Dr Sharolyn
A quote Im thinking about
Kindness: loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness
