Hello there, beautiful souls
Welcome to my third newsletter, writing these weekly reflections has become such a grounding practice for me and it has rekindled my passion for writing. Thank you for subscribing and reading along my insights, I truly hope it brings value to your life.
This weeks theme- “In the dance of life, space brings clarity, and pause brings power”
Let’s step into this week’s D-A-N-C-E together:
D- Distance
“There is a space between stimulus and response. In that space is our power to choose our response.” Victor E. Frankl
We can all apply this concept in our lives especially in stressful situations. We don’t necessarily always have to respond with fight or flight. Taking distance- moving to the next room when someone is yelling or pausing before responding to a difficult text- creates space to process.
Use this space to breathe, meditate, walk, or even have a quiet conversation with yourself. Learning to regulate our emotion before making the choice of how to respond, rather than just react, helps us to live a more fulfilling peaceful life.
This of course is easier said than done so perhaps noticing the space is the first step I would like you to take- over the next week, when faced with stressful stimulus, pause before you respond for at least 90 seconds and notice what happens in that space.
A- Appreciate
This week lets appreciate ourselves for all the good we carry within us. Self-depreciation and negative self-talk are so common, and sometimes we treat ourselves worse than we would others.
A question to ponder on this week “ Would I ever say this or do this to someone I love?”
If the answer is no, then perhaps we need to shift the lens to appreciating ourselves a little more, that we too deserve the same kindness, compliments, and uplifting words we so freely and generously offer to others.
Practical tip : Look at yourself in the mirror and give a gentle smile or nod of recognition—acknowledge “You did your best today.”
N- Noise Cancellation
In a world where there is abundant knowledge and overflowing information, perhaps we need to take some time out to unplug from all that noise or in my case- literally using a ‘noise cancellation’ airpods -helps me quiet the overwhelm.
When we step back from constant consumption, we tend to reconnect to our own inner voice—the one carrying wisdom and intuition—which can then be heard more clearly. This allows us to integrate what we have learnt into our own life.
Practical tips- logout of your social media for a few hours a day/ leave your phone at home when you go for a walk
C- Clean Up
One habit I would strongly encourage is keeping your space tidy, starting with making your bed everyday. Completing this simple task first thing in the mornings boosts productivity, creates mental clarity, and instills a sense of accomplishment.
I know it is super tempting to skip this step in the rush of the modern life because as a rebellious teenager, I resisted this (My mother would always remind me, and I’d reply, “But I’m just going to sleep in it again!”) But now, I’ve experienced how this keystone habit is an act of self discipline that sets the tone of the day ahead.
E- Exercise
Exercise isn’t only physical — it can be mental and spiritual, too. I’d like to close with a short exercise you can do right now:
Place your hand on your chest, take a deep breath, and say this out loud:
“I am exactly where I am meant to be.
I am not ahead.
I am not behind.
I am exactly where I am meant to be.”
Let these words sink in. This practice builds resilience and trust in your own unique path within your own timeline. When comparison arises — the age, the milestones, the social media highlight reels — come back to this mantra, over and over again. To remind yourself that your journey -unfolds at your pace.
Remember: there’s no expiry date for growth.
That’s your D-A-N-C-E for this week. May you notice the spaces, appreciate your worth, quiet the noise, pause before you respond, and move with trust in your journey.
Until next Sunday, keep dancing slowly.
With love,
Dr Sharolyn
A quote Im thinking about
" Let silence be the art you practice.
The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.
Let silence speak to you about the secrets of the Universe."
